Women's Basketball Improves to 4-0 vs. AMCC

CRESSON, Pa. - The La Roche women's basketball improved to 4-0 in AMCC action and 4-4 overall Wednesday evening after mowing over the Mt. Aloysius Mounties on the road, 73-41. Tonight's 32 point win is La Roche's largest margin of victory this season. In four games against the AMCC, the Redhawks have averaged 73.0 points per game while holding their opponents to 51.8 points per game (+21.2).

Four Redhawks finished in double-digit scoring figures. Mazyck, Cole, Sanders and Anderson combined for 57 of La Roche's 73 points.

How it Happened

The game remained competitive halfway through the first quarter, the Redhawks holding a narrow 9-8 lead with 3:58 to play. Then, La Roche ended the quarter on an 11-3 run to go up by 10 heading in the second and never looked back.

The Redhawks carried that momentum into the second quarter, outscoring the Mounties 17-10 while shooting 6-11 (55%) from the field and 3-5 from beyond the arc. LRU led 38-21 after 20 minutes of play, their largest halftime lead of the season.

La Roche opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run, not allowing the Mounties to score a bucket until three minutes of time expired from the clock. The Redhawk outscored Mt. Aloysius 18-5 the quarter, increasing their lead to 40 points. All 13 elligible Redhawks played in tonight's contest. 

Inside the Box Score

Junior Ayanna Mazyck finished with 16 points on a near perfect 6 of 7 from the field and 4 of 5 from the three point range. 

Senior Jenna Cole tied Mazyck with a game-high 16 points on 6 of 13 field goals. Cole also corralled six rebounds in the contest. Over her last three games, Cole has been a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line. 

Sophomore Dasja Anderson nearly recorded a double-double posting 12 points and a game-high 8 rebounds. 

Sophomore Danajah Sanders put up 13 points and dished out 3 assists. 

The Redhawks dominated the Mounties underneath, out-rebounding Mt. Aloysius 35-22 and out-scoring them in the paint 26-4. 

LRU drained a season-high 10 three-pointers on 24 attempts (42%).

La Roche forced Mt. Aloysius to committ 17 turnovers, scoring 19 points off those takeaways.   

As a unit, La Roche shot a perfect 7-7 from the free-throw line.
