Redhawks Fall in Nail Biter

Pittsburgh, Pa.- La Roche women fall to Penn State Behrend on Thursday in a close game with a final score of 70-69. The Redhawks move to 11-8 overall and 10-3 in the conference.

Jenna Cole scored 6 of the team's first 8 points but Behrend was able to stay on top for the first quarter. A three-point shot from Nia Thomas in the second quarter evened the score for the Redhawks, 33-33.

The fourth quarter began with a 56-48 score, favoring the Lions. But with 5 points from Dasja Anderson, 2 points from Jenna Cole, and 2 points from Danajah Sanders at the start of the fourth, the Redhawks came within 1 point of the Lions.

The Lions fought back, taking the lead and putting the next five points up to make the score 63-57. With a minute left in the fourth and the Redhawks trailing 60-66, Thomas hit a big three to put the Redhawks right behind the Lions at 63-66.

With 14 seconds remaining, a layup from Sanders brings the score to 65-66, but an unfortunate foul gave Behrend the next two points. Sanders answered back with a free throw of her own, but another foul from the Redhawks gave Behrend their next two free throw points. With 1 second left Sidney Farmer beat the clock with a three-point shot to bring the Redhawks from 66 to 69, but with the Lions at 70, the Lions took the game.

Jenna Cole led the Redhawks with 21 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Nia Thomas with 15 points and 3 rebounds, and Dasja Anderson with 13 points and 7 rebounds.

The Redhawks will be back in action Saturday February 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Pitt Bradford.
