Redhawks Close Difficult Non-Conference Schedule With Loss at Denison

GRANVILLE, OH -- La Roche women's basketball took the road on Thursday night against a deep Denison squad. The Redhawks brought energy and battled to the buzzer, but ultimately came up on the wrong end of a 75-62 game. La Roche concludes the non-conference portion of their schedule and enters the break at 5-6.

The matchup displayed La Roche's athleticism against Denison's size. The Redhawks used their speed to win the turnover battle and get to the foul line. However, they were overmatched inside which ended up being the difference.

Denison jumped out to an early 14-4 lead. La Roche used defense to get back into it, allowing Denison to attempt just one shot over a three minute stretch. Sidney Farmer and Danajah Sanders brought the Redhawks back combining for nine straight points and a 16-15 deficit at the first intermission.

Jenna Cole and Dasja Anderson hit second quarter shots to keep La Roche within a point. Denison followed with a 12-0 run and entered halftime with a 34-24 advantage.

Denison shot over 50% and controlled the boards to widen the gap in the third quarter. The Redhawks refused to quit and made up ground in the fourth quarter. La Roche did not commit a turnover in the final frame and shot a solid 44% from the field. Cole scored 13 fourth quarter points, but Denison earned the victory.

Cole continues to rack up points. She scored a game-high 25 points tonight and now leads the AMCC by nearly three points per game. Sanders (11 points) and Anderson (10 points) both reached double-figures. Cole and Dalezsa Regan each pulled down 6 rebounds.
