Cole Has Big Game But Redhawks Fall at York

YORK, PA -- The Redhawks took the road on Friday night for the opening game of the Coach's vs. Cancer Tournament. La Roche got a big night from Jenna Cole, but the Redhawks ultimately fell to host York College 74-58.

Cole finished with 28 points (11 pf 19 FG), 7 rebounds, and went a perfect 4 for 4 from the free throw line. Danajah Sanders reached double-figures with 12 points while also contributing 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

La Roche hung with the talented Spartans through a majority of the first half. The Redhawks answered a 21-15 York first quarter lead with 6-0 run. Cole sparked the run with a spot up three, and Shaundrea Butler buried a three to tie it on the following possession. Sidney Farmer converted a free throw for their first lead of the game with 7:36 left in the first half.

Farmer answered a York three-pointer with one of her own and a 25-24 lead. The Spartans responded with nine straight points and carried a 42-30 lead into intermission.

The Redhawks held a 16-12 halftime edge on the boards and hit 11 of 23 shots (48%). Cole had 13 first half points and Dasja Anderson had 7 points.

York stretched the lead from twelve points to twenty-three points early in the second half. The Redhawks continued to battle and outscored York 18-11 in the fourth quarter, but the Spartans went on to earn the victory.

Turnovers (22-13) and points in the paint (40-26) proved to be the difference. Each team had 31 rebounds.

The Redhawks will play tomorrow at 1pm against either SUNY Geneseo or Lycoming.
