Redhawks Drop Pair To Golden Tornadoes

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche softball was back in action on Monday afternoon in non-conference play against Geneva. Game one saw the Golden Tornadoes offense pull ahead early and come away victorious, while in game two the visitors were again able to pull through.

GAME ONE: Geneva 18 La Roche 7 F/6

Geneva would jump ahead in the top of the first, plating a single run, followed by two in the second and three in the third to move in front, 6-0.

The Redhawks battled back in the bottom of the third, picking up four runs to cut the deficit to 6-4.

Anastacia Jacob's RBI fielder's choice opened the scoring for La Roche, then Makenzie Foremeck delivered a two RBI double to make it 6-3. Kynnydy Lewis would deliver a sacrifice run for the fourth run.

The Golden Tornadoes tacked on another run in the top of the fourth and was immediately answered by Jacobs with an RBI single to make it 7-5.

Geneva added another three runs in the fifth to go ahead, 10-7, but the red ans white would again respond with a pair on a guest error and Briana Wynn RBI groundout, which closed the scoring for the Redhawks.

The Golden Tornadoes closed the scoring with an eight-run half inning to put the run rule into effect.

Lewis got the start and threw five innings, allowing 10 runs (eight earned), 13 hits, three walks and struck out two.

Finley Hohn threw one inning of relief, allowing seven runs, seven hits and one walk.

Offensively, La Roche had 10 hits, with Wade, Formeck and Ashlee Bair each having two hits to lead the way.

GAME TWO: Geneva 8 La Roche 3

Once again, Geneva opened scoring in the top of the first with a single run, then after going scoreless in the second, tacked on five more runs to move ahead, 6-0.

After the Golden Tornadoes moved ahead 7-0 with a run in the top of the fourth, La Roche scored its first of the game off an RBI ground out by Bair.

Geneva's final run came across in the top of the fifth, while the Redhawks added one of their own run in the bottom of the fifth, when Klover Haberthier crossed on an error.

Scoring closed in the bottom of the seventh, when Formeck's RBI groundout made it the eventual final score.

Emma Kaufman got the start in game two, throwing 3+ innings, allowing seven runs, seven hits and walked four.

Hohn threw three innings of relief, allowing one run, five hits, walked one and struck out three.

Offensively, the Redhawks collected six hits, with Haberthier's 2-for-2 leading the way.

La Roche returns to action on Wednesday, Apr. 30 when they face Pitt-Greensburg in the regular season finale. The doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m.
