Redhawks Split Celtics In Home Road Game

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche softball welcomed Carlow on Tuesday afternoon and despite hosting was designated the away team, in what would be a split doubleheader in AMCC play.

GAME ONE: La Roche 4 Carlow 2

La Roche would jump ahead just three batters into the game when Anastacia Jacobs singled in Maura Wade to make it 1-0.

The Redhawks would fall behind in the bottom of the second, when the Celtics came through with an RBI double and sacrifice fly to make it a 2-1 score.

Emma Bizay gave La Roche a lead it wouldn't relinquish in the top of the fourth, with a two RBI triple, making it 3-2, then in the top of the fifth, Klover Haberthier scored on a Carlow error to add an insurance run, 4-2.

Haberthier got the start and in the win, threw six innings, allowing two runs, six hits, one walk and struck out one.

Wade earned the save, allowing just one hit in the bottom of the seventh.

Offensively, La Roche had eight hits, with Jacobs and Brooke Murgenovich each having two.

GAME TWO: Carlow 8 La Roche 4

Once again, the Redhawks struck just three batters in, as Jacobs drove Wade in with an RBI single to make it 1-0.

Finley Hohn produced the second run in the two-run, top of the first, with an RBI ground out to plate Jacobs.

Carlow's response came in the bottom of the second inning, as a sacrifice fly, a two RBI double and an RBI single, all came home to make it 4-2.

The Celtics would score the game-winning run in the bottom of the fourth, off a two RBI double to make it 6-2, then a wild pitch moved the edge to 7-2.

La Roche wouldn't go down without a fight, plating two in the top of the seventh from a Rachel Malatok, two RBI single, but Carlow would shut the door following.

Kynnydy Lewis got the start in game two, throwing 1.2 innings, allowing four unearned runs, one hit and walked one.

Finley Hohn tossed 0.1 inning of relief, allowing a hit and a walk, while Wade closed the game, throwing four innings, allowing four runs (three earned), two hits and walked one.

Offensively, the Redhawks collected six hits, with six different batters picking up a hit in the game.

La Roche is back in action on Saturday, Apr. 26 when they face Alfred State for Senior Day. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m.
