PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche softball welcomed Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday afternoon, picking up a big split with the Mounties.
GAME ONE: La Roche 6 Mt. Aloysius 3
Game one scoring started right away, as Mt. Aloysius plated a pair of runs in the top of the first to take the early edge.
La Roche wasted no time responding, taking the lead, 4-2, with a four-run bottom of the first inning.
Finley Hohn opened with a line drive RBI off an error that scored Maura Wade, and Brooke Murgenovich also scored on the play.
Another Mountie error brought home the other two La Roche runs in the inning.
The Redhawks would finish their scoring in the bottom of the third off a Garrah Milochik two RBI double, making it 6-2.
Mt. Aloysius would score the final run of the game in the top of the fifth inning, making it the eventual final of 6-3.
Klover Haberthier got the start, and in the victory, threw 4.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned), eight hits, one walk and struck out one.
Wade earned the save, throwing 2.1 innings of one-hit softball.
Offensively, La Roche had six hits, led by Wade's 2-for-4 outing.
GAME TWO: Mt. Aloysius 10 La Roche 0 F/6
Game two was all Mounties, scoring a run in the top of the first, then followed it with a run in the top of the second to make it 2-0.
Four more Mt. Aloysius runs crossed in the top of the fourth and then four more would be added in the top of the sixth to secure the run-rule victory.
In game two, Haberthier returned to the circle, throwing 1+ inning, allowing two runs and two hits.
Lewis would throw three innings, allowing four runs (all unearned), seven hits, one walk and three strikeouts, while Emma Kaufman allowed four runs (one earned) and five hits in 1.1 innings.
Hohn would blank the Mounties in her 0.2 innings of work.
Offensively, the Redhawks mustered just two hits, one by Hohn and one by Milochik.
La Roche is back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 22 when they face Carlow. The game will be played at La Roche, but the Redhawks will be the designated road team.
