PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche softball welcomed Penn State Dubois for a Monday afternoon doubleheader, honoring Mental Health Awareness. Game one would go in favor of the visitors, but game two was dominated by the Redhawks, winning in six innings.
GAME ONE: Penn State Dubois 4 La Roche 2
Game one scoring didn't begin until the top of the fourth inning, when Dubois brought home a pair of runs by way of a groundout and single to make it 2-0.
La Roche would cut the deficit in half to 2-1 in the bottom half of the fourth, when Klover Haberthier scored, taking home plate when the Lions attempted to throw out Emma Bizay stealing second on the play.
Dubois added two more right back in the top of the fifth, scoring on a sacrifice fly and a run exactly like the one the Redhawks scored in the bottom of the fourth.
The final run scored in the game was in the bottom of the sixth, an RBI single by Ashlee Bair to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Maura Wade threw a complete game in the circle and in the loss allowed four runs (two earned), nine hits, one walks and struck out three.
Offensively, La Roche had seven hits with Finley Hohn leading the way going 2-for-3.
GAME TWO: La Roche 10 Penn State Dubois 2 F/6
Game two scoring started in the bottom of the third, when Kynnydy Lewis belted a two RBI triple to give the lead to La roche.
Garrah Milochik would then add a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-0 game going into the fourth.
Dubois would score its lone two runs in response in the top of the fourth with an RBI double and RBI single.
The Redhawks would explode offensively in the bottom of the fifth, bringing home six runs to make it a 9-2 score.
Lewis would again start the scoring with an RBI double, then Brianna Wynn would score off a wild pitch to make it 5-2.
Milochik and Cassidee Fitterer would follow with a pair of RBI doubles to move the score to 7-2.
Fitterer would score on an error by the pitcher, then Samantha Dixon hit an RBI single to make it 9-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, Fitterer sealed the game with an RBI single for the walk-off, run rule victory.
In game two, Klover Haberthier got the start, and tossed a complete six inning game, allowing two runs, seven hits and struck out seven.
Offensively, the Redhawks sprayed 13 hits, led by Fitterer's 3-for-4, while Wade, Hohn and Lewis each had two hits.
La Roche is back in action on Saturday, Apr. 12 when they face Penn State Behrend in AMCC play. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m.
