Redhawks Unable To Get Past Lions

ALTOONA, Pa. – La Roche softball began AMCC play on Tuesday afternoon with a trip to Penn State Altoona, but it was the Lions taking the twin-bill from the Redhawks.

GAME ONE: Penn State Altoona 11 La Roche 3 F/6

Game one scoring started in the bottom of the first inning, when the Lions picked up a run on a double steal, followed by an RBI single to lead 2-0.

Altoona was right back on the board in the bottom of the second with another RBI single to make it 3-0.

La Roche would strike in the top of the fourth inning, tying the game at 3-3.

Emma Bizay opened the Redhawks scoring with an RBI single, then Finley Hohn delivered a two RBI double to create the tie.

The tie was short lived, as the Lions plated six runs in the bottom of the fourth to build a 9-3 lead, then sealed the game in the bottom of the sixth with two more runs for the victory.

Klover Haberthier started the game, 1.1 innings, allowing three runs, five hits and three walks in the no decision.

Hohn took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) and six hits in 1.2 innings of relief, while Kynnydy Lewis threw the remaining 2.2 innings, allowing two runs, five hits and walked one.

Offensively, the Redhawks ended with seven hits, led by Bizay's 2-for-3 outing.

GAME TWO: Penn State Altoona 7 La Roche 4

Game two saw La Roche strike first in the top of the first, as Bizay drove in Brooke Murgenovich with an RBI groundout to snag the early lead.

Altoona responded however, with an RBI double and RBI single in the bottom of the first to take the lead, 2-1.

The Redhawks wasted no time tying the game at 2-2, as Rachel Malatok delivered an RBI single in the top of the second to bring the game even.

The Lions would regain the lead in the bottom of the third, going ahead, 5-4 with three runs in the frame.

La Roche battled back, but the two runs in the top of the fifth would be the final two runs scored in the game.

Maura Wade brought home Ashlee Bair on an RBI fielder's choice to make it 5-3, then Bizay again brought home Murgenovich, this time with an RBI single to make it 5-4.

Altoona would score the game's final runs, plating two in the bottom of the sixth to add insurance and seal the victory.

In game two, Wade tossed a complete game in the circle, allowing seven runs, 13 hits, three walk and struck out three.

Offensively, the Redhawks had six hits, all dispersed amongst the top six in the batting order.

La Roche is back in action on Friday, Apr. 4 when they face Hilbert for the AMCC home opening doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
