PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche softball played its first games since last Wednesday, splitting with Waynesburg on Thursday afternoon.
GAME ONE: La Roche 4 Waynesburg 3
Game one started with Waynesburg bringing home a pair of run in the top of the first to take the early lead.
La Roche would cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first, when Emma Bizay drove in Brooke Murgenovich on an RBI ground out.
The Yellow Jackets would regain the two-run lead in the top of the third and held that 3-1 lead until the bottom of the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Redhawks struck to take the lead and began by cutting the deficit to 3-2 with a Finley Hohn RBI double.
Maura Wade followed, picking up an RBI on a fielder's choice to tie the game, then Bizay picked up her second RBI ground out of the game to give the lead to the red and white.
Klover Haberthier started the game, throwing three innings, allowing three runs, five hits, three walks and struck out three.
Hohn earned the win, throwing four innings, allowing just two hits and struck out two.
Offensively, the Redhawks ended with seven hits, with Murgenovich and Makenzie Formeck leading the way with 2-for-3 outings.
GAME TWO: Waynesburg 13 La Roche 0 F/5
Game two was all Waynesburg, starting by picking up four runs in the top of the first inning.
The Yellow Jackets would then add two in both the second and third innings and five in the fourth inning to close the scoring.
In game two, Haberthier opened the game and allowed three runs, one hit and a walk without recording an out.
Hohn pitched three innings, allowing five runs (four earned), six hits and two walks, while Kynnydy Lewis tossed two innings, allowing five runs, all unearned and five hits.
Offensively, the Redhawks had seven hits again, with seven players combining for the singles.
La Roche is back in action on Saturday, Mar. 29 when they face Penn State Beaver for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
