PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche softball welcomed fans for the first time in 2025 in doubleheader action against St. Vincent on Tuesday. Play opened with a thrilling victory for the Redhawks, but game two would end in favor of the Bearcats.
GAME ONE: La Roche 8 St. Vincent 7
St. Vincent was the first to hit the scoreboard, plating five runs in the top of the second to take the lead.
La Roche battled back, beginning in the second inning, when Finley Hohn singled in Emma Bizay, followed by an Anastacia Jacobs double to make it 5-2.
The Redhawks would take over the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring four in the frame.
Emma Bizay would provide three of the runs, tripling in a pair and scoring on an error that same play to tie the game at 5-5.
Garrah Milochik would later drive in Briana Wynn to give the lead to La Roche.
St. Vincent tied the game with a run in the top of the fourth, but the Redhawks were back on the board in the bottom of the fifth.
Hohn picked up another RBI single and then Ashlee Bair provided the second RBI single to make it an 8-6 game.
The Bearcats would bring one more run across in the seventh, but La Roche would hang on for the win.
Kynnydy Lewis started the game and got a no-decision, tossing 1.1 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) and five hits.
Klover Haberthier picked up the victory in relief, throwing 5.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned), six hits, three walks and struck out one.
Offensively, the Redhawks ended with 14 hits, with Bizay and Hohn leading the way, both going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
GAME TWO: St. Vincent 20 La Roche 4 F/5
It was all St. Vincent in game two, starting out the game scoring seven in the top of the first.
An error by the Bearcats made it 7-1 in the bottom of the first and after another St. Vincent run in the top of the second, Sam Dixon provided an RBI single to make it 8-2.
The Bearcats would go on to score 12 unanswered in the top of the third and fourth innings, and La Roche closed the scoring in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI triple and also scored on an error.
In game two, Haberthier started and this time took the loss, allowing seven runs, five hits and two walks in 0.2 innings.
Three relievers combined to throw the remaining 4.1 innings, allowing 13 runs, 16 hits, five walks and one strikeout.
Offensively, the Redhawks had seven hits, with seven players each having one.
La Roche is right back in action on Wednesday, Mar. 19, when they welcome Bethany for a 3:30 p.m./5:30 p.m. doubleheader.
