Redhawks Conclude Trip To Florida

FORT MEYERS, Fla. – La Roche softball took on Geneva and Rockford in a pair of games on Thursday, concluding play in Florida, but in the end, it was the opposition getting the best of the Redhawks.

GAME ONE: Geneva 12 La Roche 4 F/5

Geneva started the game out on top, picking up a pair of runs in the top of the first to take the lead.

La Roche quickly tied the game in the bottom of the first, when Ashley Huffman drove in a run on an RBI double, followed by Emma Bizay with an RBI groundout.

The Golden Tornadoes got the lead right back in the top of the second, plating five runs to build a 7-2 lead.

The Redhawks cut the deficit to 7-3 in the bottom of the third, when Brooke Murgenovich scored on a double play.

Five more Geneva runs scored in the top of the fifth, making it 12-3 and the final run scored in the bottom of the fifth for La Roche on a Maura Wade sacrifice fly.

Kynnydy Lewis suffered the loss, throwing 1.1 innings, allowing six runs, five hits and one walk.

Finley Hohn thre the final 3.2 innings, allowing six runs (two earned), eight hits, one walk and a strikeout.

Offensively, the Redhawks ended with five hits, with Bizay leading the way with a 2-for-3 showing.

GAME TWO: Rockford 9 La Roche 1 F/6

Game two was a pitcher's duel through four innings, as the score was tied at the end of those frames, 1-1.

The Regents struck first with a run in the top of the first, then in the bottom of the third, La Roche tied the game, 1-1, on a Maura Wade RBI single.

Rockford took control in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring three in the fifth and then five more in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

In game two, Wade took the circle, and in 5.2 innings of work, allowed nine runs (four earned), 16 hits, one walk and struck out two.

Offensively, the Redhawks had seven hits, with Wade's 2-for-3 outing leading the way.

La Roche now returns to campus and prepared for the home opener on Monday, Mar. 17, when they welcome St. Vincent for a 3 p.m./5 p.m. doubleheader.
