Redhawks Sweep Express With Pair Of Run-Rule Victories

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche softball returned home and made a statement with a pair of run rule victories over Wells, an 11-0 game one win in five innings and a 13-5 win in game two in six innings.

GAME ONE: La Roche 11 Wells 0 F/5

La Roche scored right away in the bottom of the first inning, as Garrah Milochik came through with a two RBI single to score Ashton Hoover and Kynnydy Lewis to make it 2-0.

Five more Redhawks crossed the plate in the bottom of the third as the score jumped to 7-0.

Lewis started the scoring by driving in Hoover with an RBI double, then Lewis shortly after would score on a wild pitch as it was then 4-0.

Milochik drove in her third of the game with a double of her own to score Samantha Dixon, followed by Jesslyn Daniels who scored Milochik on an RBI groundout.

The scoring concluded with Cassidee Fitterer crossing the plate on a Makenzie Formeck triple.

La Roche delivered the final blow in game one with a four run fourth inning as Milochik's RBI single gave her four in the game, scoring Hoover to make it 9-0.

Brandi Clyde would single in Lewis to put the run rule in effect and Fitterer followed with an RBI infield single to score Milochik to make it 11-0 to add insurance.

Maura Wade got the start and threw a gem. In her five-inning complete game, Wade allowed just two hits and struck out three.

Offensively, the Redhawks ended with 11 hits, as Milochik (four RBI, two runs scored) and Fitterer (one RBI, one run scored) both went 3-for-3, followed by Hoover's 2-for-3, three runs scored and three stolen bases.

GAME TWO: La Roche 13 Wells 5 F/6

Game two started once again with a La Roche run in the bottom of the first, Wade singled in Hoover to make it 1-0.

The lead ballooned to 7-0 in the bottom of the third inning as the red and black had six runners come across to score.

Wade once again opened the scoring with a two RBI double as Hoover and Dixon scored to make it 3-0, then Lewis's RBI infield single drove in Wade and Klover Haberthier, who scored on an error on the same play, as it was then 5-0.

Formeck brought in the final pair of runs in the inning, as her two RBI single scored both Lewis and Fitterer.

Wells had an answer for the first time in the game in the top of the fourth, plating three runs behind a La Roche error, a bases loaded walk and a fielder's choice.

The Redhawks got all three runs back in the bottom of the fourth, as Wade, Lewis and Fitterer all hit RBI singles to build the lead back to 10-3.

The final Express runs scored in the top of the fifth, as another La Roche error allowed two runs to cross and narrow the margin to 10-5.

Wade had a response in the bottom of the fifth, driving in her fifth run of the game, as her single scored Samantha Dixon to move the edge to 11-5.

La Roche closed game two in the bottom of the sixth as Daniels hit a walk-off double that scored Haberthier and Briana Wynn to close out the sweep.

In game two, Lewis made the start in the circle and in four innings allowed five runs (two earned), four hits, walked four and struck out two.

Haberthier threw two hitless innings of relief and struck out one of her own.

Offensively, the Redhawks racked up 15 hits, led by Wade's 4-for-4, five RBI and two runs scored, while Lewis went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Hoover would include a 2-for-3 showing with two more runs scored and three more stolen bases, while Fitterer also contributed two hits, one RBI and a run scored.

La Roche returns to action on Tuesday, Apr. 23 when it welcomes Carlow for doubleheader action. Game one is set to begin at 3 p.m.
