Redhawks Drop Pair On Road To Mounties

CRESSON, Pa. – La Roche softball headed to Mt. Aloysius for an AMCC doubleheader on Wednesday. In game one, the Redhawks jumped ahead, but were unable to hold on, falling 7-5 as a late comeback fell just short. In game two, a second big, late inning propelled the Mounties to an 8-4 victory.

GAME ONE: Mt. Aloysius 7 La Roche 5

La Roche, with a chip on its shoulder, jumped ahead right away on the road, scoring two runs in the top of the first.

After the first three batters of the game loaded the bases, Kynnydy Lewis gave herself some early support, drawing a bases loaded walk that scored Maura Wade.

To batters later, Ashlee Bair made it 2-0 as her RBI single scored Ashtin Hoover.

Mt. Aloysius wouldn't score until the third inning, as the Mounties picked up an RBI double to make it 2-1.

Mt. Aloysius then made the lead on that stood at 5-2 after the fourth inning, scoring four runs, followed by another two runs crossing in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 7-2.

The Redhawks tried their best to fight back, cutting the deficit to 7-4 in the top of the sixth.

Garrah Milochik reached on an error that allowed Klover Haberthier to make it 7-3, then Bair picked up her second RBI of the game, scoring Milochik's pinch-runner, Briana Wynn, on a groundout.

In the top of the seventh, Emma Bizay pulled through with an RBI double that scored Hoover, but it was all the red and black could muster in the comeback effort.

Lewis got the start in the circle and in the defeat, tossed 4+ innings, allowing four runs, four hits and struck out one.

Emma Kaufman pitched two innings of relief and allowed three runs, five hits and one strikeout, then Haberthier closed the matchup allowing a hit and struck out two in one inning.

Offensively, Bizay and Hoover each collected two hits, as they combined for four of the team's five.

GAME TWO: Mt. Aloysius 8 La Roche 4

Game two started exactly the way game one did, as the Redhawks plated two runs in the top of the first.

This time around, it was a pair of RBI groundouts, one by Cassidee Fitterer and the other by Milochik.

Again, the Mounties cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the third, but this time only tied the game in the bottom of the fourth.

It was the top of the first Mt. Aloysius took control, plating five runs to build a 7-2 lead.

Like game one, La Roche pulled through with two runs in the top of the sixth to make it a 7-4 ballgame.

Bizay and Hoover once again came through with hits, this time a pair of RBI singles to score Samantha Dixon and Bizay scored on Hoover's hit.

However, the Mounties would up the lead to 8-4 in the bottom of the sixth to close the scoring.

In game two, Wade got the start, and in 4.1 innings allowed four runs (three earned) and six hits.

Haberthier returned in game two, but this time lasted 0.2 inning and allowed three runs (two earned), one hit and walked one.

Kaufman also threw in relief for a second time and in one inning allowed one run and two hits.

Offensively, the Redhawks put up seven hits, as Dixon led the way with a 2-for-3 showing.
