Redhawks Drop Pair To Altoona

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche softball returned to the field on Sunday afternoon to make-up a postponed doubleheader against Penn State Altoona. In game one, the Lions got the best of the Redhawks 12-0, while in game two, a huge fifth inning catapulted Altoona to a 14-4 victory.

GAME ONE: Penn State Altoona 12 La Roche 0 F/5

Altoona wasted no time jumping ahead, scoring three runs in the top of the first to make it 3-0.

The Lions would only go scoreless in the second inning, going on to plate a single run in the third, four in the fourth and four more in the fifth.

La Roche's best chance came in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of single, but a runner was left in scoring position.

Maura Wade got the start in the circle and across four innings allowed eight runs (four earned), 10 hits and walked one.

Klover Haberthier pitched an inning of relief, allowing four runs, three hits, two walks and struck out one.

Offensively, Kynnydy Lewis and her 2-for-2 led the way, while three others collected a single hit.

GAME TWO: Penn State Altoona 14 La Roche 4 F/5

Game two exactly the way game one did, as Altoona brought three runs across to take the early edge.

This time around, La Roche had a response, plating four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-3 lead.

The first three batters all reached base, then Emma Bizay started the scoring with an RBI single that scored Wade, making it 3-1.

Garrah Milochik followed with an RBI ground out, scoring Ashtin Hoover to move the score to 3-2, then Samantha Dixon belted a two RBI double to give the Redhawks the lead.

After a scoreless second and third innings both ways, the Lions would tie the game in the top of the fourth off an RBI single.

Altoona punctuated the game in the top of the fifth, plating 10 runs, bringing 16 batters to the plate, sealing the victory.

In game two, Wade got another crack at the start, and in 4+ innings allowed seven runs, 10 hits and one walk, before being removed after a comebacker to the mound.

Emma Kaufman pitched 0.1 inning of relief and allowed seven runs and seven hits, then Lewis closed the inning, tossing 0.2 inning and allowing a hit and a walk.

Offensively, the Redhawks put up eight hits, as Wade (2-for-3) and Hoover (2-for-2) led the charge.

La Roche returns to action on Wednesday, Apr. 17 when it travels to Mt. Aloysius for doubleheader action. Game one is set to begin at 3 p.m.
