ERIE, PA - La Roche Softball is back in the AMCC Tournament this year after narrowly missing it a year ago.
This year's team came to play with determination and finished their regular conference season 7-7, earning them the No. 4 seed in the AMCC Tournament.
In his first year as head coach, Jason Kern will lead his team into game one tomorrow afternoon against the No. 5 seed, Pitt-Bradford.
The last time the Redhawks tangled with the Panthers, La Roche swept them on their home field, on senior day. The final scores were 11-2 for game one, and 5-4 in game two. Although La Roche walked away victorious in both, they are still going into tomorrow's game not underestimating their opponent in the least.
The last time La Roche was in the tournament in 2020-21, the team played Pitt-Bradford in the Quarterfinals and was able to come out victorious. Their run was ended by Mount Aloysius College in the semifinals.
This season's team shouldn't be counted out should they make it past the second round this year.
Sophomore catcher, Garrah Milochik, leads the at the plate with a .389 batting average, and has a conference-leading 31 RBIs, while also adding 19 runs scored and seven stolen bases. Not forgetting that in the field she has thrown out 17 baserunners, and picked off one, all with a bad knee.
Kennedi Winslow adds speed on the basepaths for the Redhawks. The freshman has 33 runs scored to lead the conference and is second in the conference in stolen bases with 16. Winslow also puts in work at the plate, with a batting average of .379.
This year's tournament is being hosted by the No. 1 seed Penn State Behrend, and all games will take place on their fields.
La Roche is scheduled to play Pitt-Bradford in the second game of the day, (following No.3 Penn State Altoona vs. No. 6 Pitt-Greensburg), at 12 PM. The outcome of this game determines who and when they will play on Friday.
