La Roche Softball Sweeps Pitt-Greensburg on the Road

GREENSBURG, PA - This afternoon Redhawks Softball competed against the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats in a doubleheader conference matchup. La Roche was able to emerge victorious and walk away from the pair 2-0.

GAME ONE

The credit for the team's first victory of the day belongs to the warrior in the circle, Alexis Myers. Myers allowed zero runs in game one for La Roche. She lasted all 7-innings at the helm of the Redhawk defense, striking out 3 Bobcats in the process.

This doesn't mean that the La Roche offense didn't have to fight hard against a tough Bobcats pitcher who meant business. Garrah Milochik recorded a double to earn herself a spot on base, placing herself in the perfect opportunity to sneak past home when Macy Vignolinini distracted the pitcher with a sacrifice bunt. Vignolini earned one RBI for the Redhawks.

La Roche's second run was scored by Kennedi Winslow poking the ball into play, allowing Katie Gaughan the opportunity to give the team a 2-0 lead. Winslow earned the other RBI for game one.

It was a stellar showing for the Redhawks in the field, turning four double plays in game one to make efficient work of the Greensburg batters.

Ashlee Bair, Winslow, Milochik, and Gaughan all had one hit to lead their team.

GAME TWO

In the second contest of the afternoon, the Redhawks took a few innings to warm up and get their bats going. They were the first on the board with a run coming from the tandem team of Bair and Myers.

Bair reached base first on a double out to the left field. Myers followed suit, shooting a hard line drive up the center of the field allowing Bair the chance to return home.

However, the team had to fight a hard battle after giving up 9 runs to the Bobcats in the fourth inning.

It was the very next inning— the fifth inning, that La Roche answered the Bobcats and scored 8 runs of their own. The hot inning was led by singles off of the bats of Bair and Clyde, a walk by Ashtin Hoover, a sacrifice fly from Macy Vignolini, a home run by Abby Hoffman, her first of the season, and another double off the bat of Garrah Milochik

The Redhawks in the top of the sixth inning was able to tie things up at 10 after a wild pitch from the Bobcats hurler, allowing one run to steal home plate. Each team remained scoreless in the seventh inning, forcing an extra eighth inning for the two teams to battle it out once and for all.

La Roche started with Kennedi Winslow on second base, and Hoover did not waste the opportunity and reached first base on a bunt, and gave Winslow the chance to reach third base. Ashlee Bair doubled on a fly ball to center field, driving in both Hoover and Winslow, putting the Redhawks up by 2. Milochik drove in the final run for the Redhawks on the day. The catcher singled to center field, driving in Bair to give the team a 13-10 lead.

In the final inning of the contest, the La Roche defense made quick work of the Bobcat offense. They got the lead runner out on a fielder's choice, and then for their final two outs, turned their final double play of the day to hold the Bobcats scoreless, and to earn the win.

Winslow started in the circle for La Roche, standing tall for 3 innings, striking out 1. Ashtin Hoover will earn the win for the team today; the righty went 5 innings, allowed three runs on 5 hits, and struck out 1.

Your Redhawks will be back at home this Wednesday against Chatham University. Game times are scheduled for 3 and 5 PM.
