Redhawks Upset Panthers in AMCC Quarterfinals

BRADFORD, Pa. - After being swept last Saturday in the regular season finale by Pitt Bradford, the Redhawks returned nine days later to sweep the Panthers in the AMCC quarterfinals. La Roche took both games 1-0, their only shutout wins of the season.

Senior Alexa Young had some of the best performances of her career in two complete game shuouts. In 15.0 innings of work, Young had 12 strike-outs, one walk, seven hits and no earned runs. Young has pitched an AMCC high 12 complete games this season.

Alexis Myers knocked in the game winning run in the top of the eighth of game one and Brandi Clyde hit an RBI single to seal the deal in the top of the seventh of game two. 

The Redhawks will now travel to #3 seed Mt. Aloysius this Wednesday, May 12th for the conference semifinals. The last time LRU made it to the semi's was in 2015.

Game One - La Roche 1, Pitt Bradford 0

In 8.0 innings pitched, Young had six K's, one walk, five hits and no earned runs. Young pitched out of multiple jams and left six Panthers stranded on base. The Panthers batted 5-for-28 (.179) as a team against the Redhawks ace.

Neither team was able to score in regulation, so the game went to extra innings. Kelly Denk got things started in the top of the eighth with a single through the right side. Then Ashtin Hoover advanced Denk to second with a single down the left field line. Devan Smith was then hit by a pitch to load the bases.

With one out, Alexis Myers put the ball in play and grounded out to score Denk, the game winning run.

The Redhawks game one playoff victory was their first since 2016.

Brandi Clyde went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate and drew a walk.

Ashtin Hoover, Meghan Haynes, and Kelly Denk all registered singles.

Game One - La Roche 1, Pitt Bradford 0

Game two was a similar story, but the pitching battle was even more intense. Only six total hits were recorded between both teams and only five runners were left on base. In comparison to game which had 10 combined hits and 13 runners left on base.

Alexa Young once again went the distance. In 7.0 innings pitched, she had six strike-outs, zero walks, zero earned runs and gave up just two hits.

After six scoreless innings, Devan Smith got things started in the top of the seventh with a single up the left side. Then Alexis Myers reached on an error and Smith advanced to second.

With two outs and a full count, junior Brandi Clyde drove in the series winning run on an RBI single to left field.
