Softball Swept at Pitt Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. - The La Roche softball team was swept by first place Pitt Bradford Saturday afternoon on the road in their final regular season doubleheader. The Redhawks are now 7-9 in conference play and sit at sixth place in the AMCC standings.

In game one, Pitt Bradford pitcher Jordan Uhing threw her second no-hitter of the season. The Panthers won 8-0 and the game ended in the fifth inning due to the NCAA's eight-run rule.

In game two, LRU got off to a hot start with three runs in the top of the first but weren't able to score again. The Panthers would score eight runs in the first three innings and go on to win 9-3.

Game One - La Roche 0, Pitt Bradford 8

LRU suffered their first shutout loss of the season in game one. The Redhawks struckout five times and did not register a hit.

Pitt Bradford went 10-23 (.435) at the plate as a team and scored eight runs on only four RBI. The Redhawks committed three errors in the field which helped score three Panther runs.

Alexa Young got the start and pitched her tenth complete game of the season. In 4.0 innings, Young had three strikeouts, three walks and gave up five earned runs. Young is now 5-5 on the season.

Game Two - La Roche 3, Pitt Bradford 9

Lead-off hitter Kelly Denk got things started in the top of the first with a double to left center. Two batters later, Devan Smith hit an RBI single to score Denk as LRU went up 1-0. With two outs in the first, Meghan Haynes got her first career homerun! Haynes blasted a two-run shot into left center to score Smith as LRU took an early 3-0 lead.

Unfortunately after the first inning, it was all Pitt Bradford. The Panthers scored nine runs on seven RBI and capitilized on four LRU fielding errors.

Kelly Denk went 2-for-4 with two doubles and scored a run.

Devan Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run.

Lyndsi Urani went 2-for-3 and pitched the final four innings for LRU. Urani had two strikeouts and gave up just one earned run.

Up Next

La Roche will travel for the first round of the AMCC Tournament next Sunday, May 9th. The Redhawks opponent is still to be determined.
