Softball Splits Two on Day 4 of Fastpitch Dreams Spring Class

N. MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - La Roche softball split a pair of games Thursday afternoon on day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. In game one, La Roche extended their win streak to five as they easily dismantled Iowa Wesleyan, 9-0, ending the contest in just six innings for the second straight game. LRU bats went 11-28 (.393) as a unit, drove in seven RBI and produced three extra base hits.

In game two against Norwich, La Roche found themselves on the other end of a dominant performance, falling to the Cadets, 9-0. It marks the first loss of LRU's stunning and impressive start. La Roche left eight runners on base in the defeat.

On the Mound

(vs. Iowa Wesleyan) - Junior RHP Alexa Young (Altoona, PA/Altoona) was stellar in the victory over the Wildcats as she improved to 4-0 on the season. Young pitched all six innings and stuck out a season-high eight batters. She allowed just two runs in the shutout. Young has given up only six earned runs in 24.1 innings this season.

(vs. Norwich) - Freshman RHP Carlie Dillon (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Twp) suffered her first loss of the season in a 9-0 route by a talented Norwich squad. (Dillon: 5.1 IP, 14 H, 8 ER, 6 K, 2 BB)

At the Plate

(vs. Iowa Wesleyan) - Seven Redhawks got a hit and five recorded at least one RBI against the Wildcats. Lexi Strasser and Sydnee DeShong each recorded a game-high three hits. DeShong and Kayla Ordos posted two RBI a piece. LRU stuck out just twice in 28 at bats.

(vs. Norwich) - The Cadets out-hit the Redhawks 14-7 in the contest and handed La Roche it's first shutout (and loss) of the season. Norwich went an impressive 14-30 (.467) as a team and recorded seven extra base hits, three of which came from Makeena Wade (two 3B, 2B). 

NEXT UP: La Roche wraps up their Spring Break trip tomorrow afternoon in a double-header against New Jersey City (9:30 a.m.) and Cairn (1:30 p.m.)
