Late Inning Rallies Lift Softball To Sweep At Pitt-Greensburg

The Redhawks used a pair of two run hits to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Kelly Denk reached on a fielder's choice and Alexis Medva drove her home with a double into centerfield. Medva scored on the next at bat with a Kayla Ordos single through the left side.

Pitt-Greensburg used an unearned run to get back within one, but a Dayna Calloway infield single in the second inning scored Alexa Young for a 3-1 lead.

The Redhawks bobbled the third out in the third inning and Pitt-Greensburg was able to tie the game with two unearned runs.

Young followed with a 1-2-3 fourth inning. The Redhawks helped her out with a run in the top of the fifth. Denk hit a one-out single up the middle, advanced to second on a Medva single, and to third on a wild pitch. Ordos drove a 3-2 pitch into right field for a sac-fly and 4-3 lead.

Pitt-Greensburg answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Teams traded runs in the sixth. Devan Smith doubled home Michaela Geracia in the top of the inning before the Bobcats tied it in the bottom of the inning.

Young came away with timely hitting in the top of the seventh. Medva reached on a fielder's choice and Ordos on an error. They advanced into scoring position on a passed ball, and then Young sent a 1-1 pitch into centerfield for a 7-5 lead.

Pitt Greensburg took control early, grabbing a 4-0 lead and holding that lead until the fourth. The Redhawks took advantage of a Bobcat error, as Samantha Hunter reached base, allowing Grassmyer to score.

Pitt-Greensburg got the run back in the fifth, but Redhawks got within striking distance in the sixth. Medva drew a lead off walk and Ordos and Samluk followed by reaching on errors. Grassmyer made it 5-2 with an RBI walk. Young and Hunter followed with RBI groundouts to get within one run.

The Bobcats scored in the bottom of the sixth, but the Redhawks took the lead in the top of the seventh.

The Redhawks loaded the bases with one out and Emily Samluk picked up the big hit, lining a double into right field to tie it. Grassmyer beat out an infield single to give the Redhawks the lead. Hunter scored an insurance run for an 8-6 lead.

La Roche needed that run because they went on to win 8-7.

Grassmyer went 2 for 2 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI, and scored. She also earned the victory on the mound.

Samluk hit in two and scored twice. Medva and Ordos each scored a run.
