Softball Drops Double Header at Mt. Aloysius

CRESSON, PA -- The La Roche College softball team dropped a double header at Mt. Aloysius on Thursday afternoon. The Redhawks fell in game one 11-6 and game two 10-1.

Game 1: The Redhawks jumped ahead with four runs in the top of the first inning.

Ashley Burford led off with a single and Andie Lippman drew a walk. Two straight flyouts threatened to strand runners, but Burford stole third and scored when the throw sailed past third base. Leonard then belted a 2-run homer over the left field wall.

Devan Smith and Aubrie Martin kept the inning going with two out singles and Sydney DeShong made it 4-0 with an infield single.

La Roche grabbed a 6-0 lead midway through the third inning. Leonard, Smith, and Martin reached to load the bases. Alexis Medva drew a walk and Burford followed with a sac fly.

Mt. Aloysius got two back on a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the third. They broke it open with 8 runs in the fourth inning and hung on for the 11-6 win.

Leonard hit in two and scored twice. Burford had an RBI and scored and Devan Smith had 2 runs.

Game 2: Both teams stranded runners early, but the Redhawks got on the board first in the second game. Ashley Burford beat out an infield single and advanced to second on a sac bunt. Kelsey Plato doubled to right field for a 1-0 lead.

An error and a pair of singles allowed Mt. Aloysius to take a 3-1 lead after three innings of play. The Mounties tacked on two more with a 2-out 2-run double in the fourth inning.

La Roche left runners on in the fifth and sixth innings and Mt. Aloysius scored five in the bottom of the sixth (4 unearned runs).
