Redhawks Fall In Heartbreaker To Yellow Jackets

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche men's soccer welcomed fans for the first time in 2024, but a late goal by the visiting Waynesburg Yellow Jackets took the air out of the crowd, as the Redhawks fell 2-1.

It was La Roche who struck first as the freshman duo of Austin Emery, assisted by Ethan Illerbrun, connected at 35:13 mark of the first half to give the Redhawks the lead.

The lead lased just 4:04 as Waynesburg responded to tie the game 1-1, which held going into the break.

The second half was a stalemate until heartbreak set in for La Roche as time was nearing an end.

What looked to be a potential tie turned into defeat, as the Yellow Jackets scored the game-winning goal with 1:55 seconds remaining to steal the win.

Final shot total was in favor of Waynesburg 12-9, while shots on goal ended 9-4 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.

Emery and fellow freshman Jayden Fezatte both led the team with two shots. Four players combined for the four shots on goal.

In net, Maddox Anderson stopped seven of nine shots his way.

The Redhawks return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 11 as they travel to Westminster for a match with the Titans. Opening kick is slated for 7:30 p.m.
