Redhawks Fall In Season Opener To Barons

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – After having its first game of the season suspended and eventually postponed on Friday night, La Roche men's soccer took the pitch officially for the first time on Saturday, but fell to host Franciscan, 5-0.

The Barons held just a 1-0 lead after the first half, a goal scored at the 9:56 mark.

It was the second half in when Franciscan opened the game, scoring goals at 66:15 and 73:13, upping the lead to 3-0.
The final tallies of the game came at 79:56 and 85:33, as the Barons took advantage of playing a man up after a red card set the Redhawks down to 10 men.

Franciscan won the shot battle 27-4 and shots on goal were 13-3.

Four separate players each had one shot for La Roche, with three players (Tyler Bryan, Samuel Mastroberardino and Austin Emery) placing shots on goal.

The Redhawks have some time to regroup before hosting their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 7, when Waynesburg comes to the Baierl Athletic Complex for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
