La Roche Playoff Hopes Halted By Hilbert On Senior Day

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche men's soccer had an opportunity to potentially put themselves into the playoffs on Saturday, however it was Hilbert who thwarted the Redhawks of the opportunity, defeating La Roche 3-1.

Prior to the game, the Redhawks honored senior's Zaki Khouri, Jake Gorman and Tyler Bryan, and were the first to crack the board as Gorman found Ramadhan Hamis Nkubas at 27:50 to give La Roche the lead.

However, just before halftime, Hilbert would tie the game at 41:46 on a penalty kick to make it 1-1 going into the break.

Out of halftime, the Hawks scored just 10:14 into the second half to take a 2-1 lead.

Late in the game, the Redhawks were pushing strong offensively, but a drop back to regroup went array and an own goal crossed the line to conclude the scoring and end the game 3-1.

The shot total ended in favor of La Roche 16-10, while also holding a slight 10-9 edge in shots on goal.

Between the pipes, sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Rizzo made six saves having faced nine shots

Gorman led the team with four shots, while Nkubas and Bryan each had three shots. Bryan placed all three of his shots on goal, while two of Gorman's were on net.

For the Redhawks the season concludes and now will begin to set their sights on continued growth for the 2024 campaign.
