Coach Day Becomes Program's Winningest Coach as Men's Soccer Shuts Down Thiel

GREENVILLE, PA -- Coach David Day became the Redhawks' all-time leader in wins after his squad defeated a talented Thiel team 2-0 on Friday night. Coach Day picks up win number 86, passing Weston Hawley, who coached at La Roche from 1999-2008. Day's Redhawks also improve to 2-4 on the season.

Firas Abduljawad finished with a goal and an assist. His three assists is tops in the AMCC and his seven points rank second.

Ximo Vicent become just the tenth player in La Roche history to tally twenty career goals. He currently ranks fourth all-time in points and is tied with Ryan Luffey with 36 assists.

Austin Gorman made 5 saves to pick up his six career shutout.

La Roche played pressure soccer from the opening kick. They attacked the Thiel defense and earned corner kicks in the third and fourth minutes. Thiel goalkeeper Christian Conrad kept the Redhawks off the board over the early minutes, but Abduljawad refused to be denied.

In the twenty-fifth minute, Conrad made two consecutive saves on Abduljawad, but Abduljawad collected the third rebound and calmly placed it in the back of the net.

La Roche held Thiel off the board and Vicent made it 2-0 just two minutes into the second half. Abduljawad found Vicent who bent a shot around the Thiel keeper and into the back of the net.

The Redhawk defense slowed Thiel's attack, holding the PAC's second highest scoring team scoreless.

La Roche returns home on Monday to take on Westminster.
