Men's Soccer Looks to Extend Postseason Streak

Men's Soccer Looks to Extend Postseason Streak

The La Roche Men's Soccer team is aiming to return to the postseason for a tweflth straight season. The Redhawks placed fifth in the AMCC in 2017 and advanced to the AMCC Tournament Quarterfinals.

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference coaches view La Roche as a playoff team in 2018. They recently voted the Redhawks fourth in the preseason poll, while Ximo Vicent and Ty Savochka earned Preason Players to Watch honors.

Vicent is one of the premier assist men in the country. He ranks second in the nation among 2017 returnees in assists with a school-record 14. He was a 2017 AMCC All-Conference Second Teamer and one of the Redhawks' team captains.

Savochka took the step from contributor to leader. He was a third team all-conference selection in 2017 and started 17 games at center back.

The 2018 Redhawks are young but talented. Austin Gorman and Abdullah Aljundi form a formidable 1-2 punch at the backend while senior Nick Shaw is a four-year starter. Firas Abduljawad and Kyle Harriett were starters in 2017.

La Roche kicks off the season on Saturday at Waynesburg. They return to the Baierl Athletic Complex on Wednesday against Mt. Union and begin AMCC Conference play on September 22 against Penn State Behrend.
