Preview: Men's Lacrosse Faces Franciscan in Home Opener

McCANDLESS, Pa. - La Roche men's lacrosse takes on non-conference opponent Franciscan University tomorrow afternoon at the Baierl Athletic Complex on La Roche's campus.

Series vs. Franciscan

  • The Redhawks took care of the Barons on the road last season, 16-13. Five Redhawks finished with multiple goals led by Brent Burkhouse who posted five. 
  • La Roche is 3-3 all time against Franciscan
  • The last time the teams played at LRU was April 25th, 2018. FSU won that game convincingly, 26-12.

La Roche (1-1) News and Notes

  • LRU earned their first win of the season at Mount St. Joseph last Saturday, 21-17. It's the most goals scored by the Redhawks in a game since March 16, 2013. Four different Redhawks finished with multiple goals led by Junior midfielder Shawn McDanel who finished with six goals, a team-high 17 ground balls and two assists. McDanel was named the AMCC Offensive Player of the Week this past Monday (3/2) along with GK Chris Sylvis who was dubbed the AMCC Defensive Player of the Week. 
  • Saturday's win marks the first time since 2014-15 that the La Roche men's lacrosse program has began 1-1. A great feat for first year head coach, Zach Wilfong.
  • Mitchell Bachman, Shawn McDanel and Brent Burkhouse lead the squad with seven goals a piece thus far. 
  • Austen Lunt has dished out a team-high seven assists.
  • In two starts in net, GK Chris Sylvis has made 37 saves and posted a .587 save percentage. 
  • The Redhawks last home win was all the way back on April 22nd, 2016. Since then, La Roche is 0-17 at their home venue. 

Franciscan (0-2) News and Notes

  • Freshman Dominic Rohan has been leading the way offensively with six goals in two games so far. 
  • Michael Araps is second in points with five, as he has recorded two goals and three assits in the early goings.
  • Franciscan is still seeking consistent goal tending, with Micah Eby and Grant McKeown alternating in goal thus far.
