Redhawks Battle On Senior Day But Fall To Lions 64-62

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche men's basketball concluded regular season play on Saturday afternoon, but were unable to get past Penn State Altoona on Senior Day, 64-62.

Scoring was minimal in the first 8:30 of play, as the Lions held a 13-6 lead at that point.

With 7:12 to go, the Redhawks saw the deficit grow to 20-10, but scored 11 of the next 14 points over the next 6:13 to trail only 23-21 with 59 seconds to go in the half.

Ultimately, Altoona would take a 25-23 lead into the half.

Out of the break, the Lions used the first 4:30 to rebuild a 10-point lead at 39-29.

Over the next two minutes, the red and black countered with a 10-0 run to tie the game at 39-39.

The next five minutes saw the score stay within three points, but La Roche just wasn't able to pull ahead.

With 6:34 to go, the Redhawks trailed 52-45, but yet again used a 7-0 run to even the game with just over five minutes left.

Altoona again pulled ahead by six, 64-58 with 2:50 remaining, and La Roche would score the final four points of the game but come up just short with a trio of misses in the final seconds.

For the game, the Redhawks finished 19-for-63 (30.2%) from the floor and 6-for-28 (21.4%) from three. From the foul line, they made 18 of 20 attempts (90%).

On the other side, the Lions finished 25-for-59 (42.4%) from the field, 4-for-15 (26.7%) from deep and 10-for-16 (62.5%) from the free-throw stripe.

The Redhawks had three players in double figures, led by Bryce Epps who scored 14 points to go with four rebounds, two assists and four steals.

Dominic Elliott contributed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Isaiah Thomas contributed 10 as well with five rebounds.

La Roche enters the AMCC Tournament as the #5 seed and will travel to Penn State Behrend for the first round matchup on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
