Late Surge Pushes Redhawks Past Mounties 70-63

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche men's basketball locked in late against Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday, taking down the Mounties, 70-63, for its fourth straight win.

It was all Mounties in the early stage of the game, outscoring La Roche 12-5 across the first 6:16 of play.

The lead would grow to 19-10, the largest of the half before the midway point, but in the final five minutes, a 10-2 run by the Redhawks moved the needle to a single possession deficit of 32-30.

Mt. Aloysius would score the final three points however, taking a 35-30 lead into the half.

Out of the break, the red and black scored eight of the first 10 points to take its first lead of the game, 38-37

With 12:06 remaining, La Roche fell back behind by six, as the score read 52-46 in favor of the hosts.

With 6:01 remaining, the Redhawks were still trailing, 61-56, but at that point, the red and black took over.

La Roche would dominate the final six minutes, outscoring the Mounties 14-2 as they pulled off the victory to continue the winning ways.

For the game, the Redhawks finished 27-for-62 (43.5%) from the floor and 9-for-30 (30%) from three. From the foul line, they made 7 of 8 attempts (87.5%).

On the other side, Mt. Aloysius finished 21-for-61 (34.4%) from the field, 5-for-21 (23.8%) from deep and 16-for-20 (80%) from the free-throw stripe.

The Redhawks had two players in double figures, led by Bryce Epps, scoring a game-high 23 points, including 16 in the second half, while adding seven rebounds, two assists and four steals.

Michael Brooks followed with 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

La Roche concludes its road trip on Saturday, Feb. 1 when they look to get redemption against Pitt-Bradford. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
