Redhawks Take Down Celtics 92-82

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche men's basketball returned to AMCC play on Wednesday night against Carlow and in the end it was the Redhawks coming out on top, 92-82, behind a big second half.

It was back and forth the first half and it wasn't until 8:51 remaining where the Redhawks pulled ahead some to take a 26-20 lead.

By the 6:05 mark, the red and black upped the lead to 34-27, but the remainder of the half would belong to the visiting Celtics.

Over the final 5:45 of the opening 20 minutes, Carlow would outscore La Roche 17-5 and take a 44-39 lead into the half.

Out of the locker room, La Roche sparked, scoring 10 of the first 12 points to build a 49-46 lead over the first three minutes.

The red and black continued to hold the lead by no more than three over the next six minutes and with 10:48 to go the lead sat at 63-61.

At that point, the Redhawks began a 5-0 run to go ahead 69-61, but by the 8:10 mark, the score was 72-69 after Carlow had a spurt.

With just 4:48 the score was still within four at 79-75, but just three minutes later, an 11-4 run by the red and black built the edge to 90-79 and La Roche coasted to victory from there.

For the game, La Roche shot 51.6% (33-for-64) from the floor and 13-for-28 (46.4%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went 14-for-19 (73.7%).

On the other side, the Celtics went on to shoot 56.6% (30-for-53) from the field, 10-for-19 (52.6%) from deep and went 12-for-16 (75%).

All five Redhawk starters went on to score in double figures, with Bryce Epps leading the charge.

Epps ended the night with 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor and 4-for-6 from deep in 22 minutes of action.

Isaiah Thomas, Dominic Elliott and Joe Starzynski all contributed 14 points. Thomas chipped in nine rebounds and four assists, Elliott with eight rebounds and Starzynski added four rebounds and a pair of assists.

Michael Brooks finished with 10 points, three rebounds and seven assists.

La Roche returns to action to close out a three-game home stand on Saturday, Jan. 25 as they host Alfred State. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
