Redhawks Take Down Golden Eagles In Non-Conference Action 86-75

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche men's basketball returned to the win column on Tuesday night, upending Brockport in non-conference action, 86-75.

La Roche stormed ahead in the first two minutes of play, taking a 7-0 lead immediately.

The Golden Eagles would fight back to trim the deficit to 9-8 with 13:33 remaining.

The Redhawks, leading 14-13 with 11:37 left in the half, went on a huge spurt, outscoring the opposition 12-0 over the next 2:26 to take a 25-13 lead just past the midway point.

The red and black wouldn't allow the deficit to come any closer than seven the remainder of the opening 20 minutes and took a 45-34 lead into the half.

Out of the locker room, La Roche used the first 2:26 to build the lead up to a game-high of 15 at 53-38.

With 13:18 to go, things unraveled for the Redhawks a bit, allowing Brockport to utilize an 8-0 to trim the margin down to 60-54.

As the clock read 8:50, the red and black rebuilt the lead back to 69-60, but a 10-0 run by the Golden Eagles gave the visitors their first lead of the night at 70-69 with 6:38 remaining.

La Roche countered, locking in for its second 12-0 run of the night to open a double-digit lead yet again, 81-70, enough to seal the victory down the stretch.

For the game, the Redhawks shot 49.2% (31-for-63) from the floor and 8-for-28 (28.6%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went 16-for-19 (84.2%).

On the other side, Brockport went on to shoot 48.4% (31-for-64) from the field, 7-for-15 (46.7%) from deep and went six-for-15 (40%) from the charity stripe.

Four Redhawks went on to score in double figures, with Isaiah Thomas and Joe Starzynski leading the charge.

Thomas ended the game with 21 points on 8-for-11 shooting, alongside five rebounds and three assists, while Starzynski also added 21 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

Bryce Epps contributed 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Dominic Elliott scored 11 points to go with five rebounds, three assists, one steal and a block.

La Roche has a quick turnaround as they host Carlow on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Opening tip from the KFC is set for 7 p.m.
