Redhawks Drop Tough One To Bobcats

GREENSBURG, Pa. – La Roche men's basketball took on Pitt-Greensburg on the road Wednesday night, but in a hard-fought battle, fell to the Bobcats, 68-64.

It was all Redhawks in the first 3:48 of play, jumping out to a 9-0 lead, setting an early tone.

The Bobcats would counter, scoring the next eight points to cut the deficit to 9-8 and held the red and black scoreless for a stretch of 6:24.

Over the final 9:48, La Roche would pull ahead by six points on a pair of occasions, but the hosts would take their first lead with 1:06 remaining and a pair of baskets were traded to set up a 29-29 stalemate at the break.

Out of the break, it was back-and-forth, as neither team was able to take a lead of more the three points across the first 14:07 of play, until a pair of Bobcat free-throws made it 55-51 in favor of Greensburg with 5:53 on the clock

The Redhawks deficit grew to six with 4:26 remaining and moved up to seven, 63-56 with 3:17 to go.

La Roche managed to cut the deficit down to 66-64 with 13 seconds left, but the Bobcats hit their two free-throws to seal the victory.

For the game, the Redhawks finished 25-for-74 (33.8%) from the floor and 6-for-31 (19.4%) from three. From the foul line, they made eight of 11 attempts (72.7%).

On the other side, Pitt-Greensburg finished 24-for-60 (40%) from the field, 6-for-19 (31.6%) from deep and 14-for-19 (73.7%) from the free-throw stripe.

The Redhawks had two players in double figures, led by Bryce Epps with his game-high 19 points, while also adding in nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Joe Starzynski followed with 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

La Roche continues its road trip with the final leg when they travel to Penn State Altoona on Saturday, Jan. 18. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
