Redhawks Make It Three Straight In 74-63 Victory Over Bobcats

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche men's basketball had a strong opening half to jump ahead by double figures, en route to a 74-63 win over Pitt-Greensburg.

The Redhawks opened the game fast, with a 9-0 run behind a pair of triples and an and-one basket in the game's opening 3:01.

A 6-0 Bobcat run would follow to trim the deficit to 9-6, but another run of 7-0 by La Roche when the score was 11-8 opened the first double digit lead of the night with 11:15 to go in the opening half.

Over the next near eight minutes, the lead stayed no less than seven, but a 6-0 UPG run when trailing 27-17 cut the deficit to 27-23 with 3:46 remaining.

The Redhawks would then go one to outscore the Bobcats 11-5 down the final stretch of the half to open a 38-28 lead going into the locker room.

Out of the break, La Roche rebuilt a double digit lead of 43-30 in the opening 1:45 of play, and the rest of the way, never allowed UPG to come within any closer than five points to seal the victory and hold the lead from coast-to-coast.

For the game, the Redhawks finished going 26-for-68 (38.2%) from the floor and were 10-for-29 (34.5%) from three. From the foul line, they capitalized on 12 of 15 attempts (80%).

On the other side, the Bobcats finished 23-for-61 (37.7%) from the field, and 7-for-28 (25%) from deep, while going 10-for-12 (83.3%) from the foul line.

La Roche had three players enter double figures, with Michael Brooks and his 20 points leading the charge, also adding nine rebounds to his line.

Bryce Epps followed, netting 19 points to go alongside four rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals, while Joe Starzynski put together a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.

The next time the Redhawks take the floor, they welcome Penn State Altoona on Saturday, Jan. 13. Opening tip against the Lions is slated for 4 p.m.
