McCANDLESS, Pa. - La Roche men's basketball hosts conference rival Penn St. Behrend Saturday, February 8th at the Kerr Fitness Center. Darius Lawrence propelled the Redhawks to a 57-55 victory earlier this season at the Lions den by scoring the go-ahead bucket with 5.3 seconds remaining. Tip-off for tomorrow's contest is set for 2:00 p.m.

La Roche (OVR: 14-6, AMCC: 14-1)

Last Time Out: The Redhawks escaped D'Youville last Saturday (2/1) with an 82-75 road win. The Spartans, who rank second to last in the conference standings, led by as many as six points in the first before La Roche produced a 15-6 at the end of the half to head into a halftime ahead 38-32. The Redhawks maintained their advantage throughout the second but never lead by more than ten points. D'Youville made it a four-point with a minute remaining but that's as close as they got.  LRU has won nine straight games against DYC. Tyler Frederick recorded a double-double with a team-high 17 points and 17 rebounds. Darius Lawrence (14), Austin Hannes (13) and Kennedy Smith (11) all finished in double-digit figures.

News and Notes

  • Darius Lawrence won his 79th collegiate game at D'Youville last Saturday, placing him first in career wins in program history. Lawrence has played in 101 games at La Roche and has won at least 20 games in each of his first three seasons (2016: 20, 2017: 21, 2018: 24). Head Coach Hermie Carmichael said on twitter of Lawrence, "Pound for pound no one tougher...not sure we have ever had someone excel at their role for their entire career more than Darius". This season, Darius has had career-high's in minutes per game (30.8), points per game (14.4), assists per game (2.9), rebounds per game (3.1) and steals per game (1.2). He has started in 19 of LRU's 20 games thus far.
  • With a 14-1 record in conference play this season, La Roche holds a 1.5 game advantage over Pitt Greensburg (13-3) for the first spot in the AMCC standings.
  • The Redhawks have not lost a regular season home game since December 6th, 2017. Since then, La Roche is an incredible 29-0 at the Kerr.
  • LRU's last conference home loss is even further back on February 8th, 2017 when Penn St. Behrend defeated the Redhawks, 63-59. Since then, La Roche is 26-0 against the AMCC at the Kerr.
