Preview: Men's Basketball vs. Hilbert College

McCANDLESS, Pa. - The La Roche men's basketball teams takes on Hilbert College in AMCC action this Saturday, January 18th at the Kerr Fitness Center. Proceeding the conclusion of the contest, the La Roche Department of Athletics will hold an induction ceremony in the center of Coach Scott Lang Court for the Hall of Fame Class of 2020. All fans are encouraged to stick around for the induction.

La Roche (OVR: 8-6, AMCC: 8-1)

Last Time Out: The Redhawks 28-game regular season conference win streak came to an end Wednesday evening at Franciscan. The Barons leading scorer, Sean Hickey, drilled the go-ahead 3-PT to give Franciscan their first win over La Roche since 2015. Entering Wednesday's game, La Roche had won eight straight against the Barons. FUS outscored LRU 38-28 in the second half to win by a single point, 72-71. Tyler Frederick scored a team-high 17 points and reeled in 9 rebounds. Frederick went coast-to-coast to put the Redhawks up by two with 22.5 seconds remaining in the contest. After shooting 16 of 31 (52%) from the field in the first, La Roche knocked down just 10 of 29 (35%) shots in the second while allowing Franciscan to shoot 16 of 27 (59%) from the floor in the second half. Senior forward Luke McDonough tied his season-high with 11 points and knocked down a career-high two 3-PT. The Redhawks scored just one field goal in the final five minutes of the game.

  • With an 8-1 record in conference play, La Roche is tied in the number one spot of the AMCC standings with Pitt Greensburg who is also 8-1 in AMCC action. The Redhawks defeated Greensburg earlier this season at the Kerr, 89-73 in the AMCC Game of the Week.
  • In their first five conference games this season, the Redhawks were 175 of 322 (54%) from the field. In their last four conference games, the black and red have shot 105 of 250 (42%) from the field.

  • Against the Lions, Hilbert's leading scorer, Hunter Martineau, recorded his 1,000th career point, finishing with a game-high 20 points in the contest.
  • Martineau has averaged 15.7 points per game (8th in AMCC), 7.2 assists per game (3rd in D-III) and 5.8 rebounds per game (1st on team). Hunter is the only other AMCC student athlete to receive the USBWA National Player of the Week award besides Tyler Frederick. Martineau won the award on December, 3rd 2019.
