ALFRED, N.Y. - La Roche men's basketball looks to extend their win streak to six when they head to Alfred, NY Wednesday, January 8th to take on conference opponent Alfred St. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.

La Roche (OVR: 6-5, AMCC: 6-0)

Last Time Out: The Redhawks extended their win streak to five games after defeating D'Youville College last Saturday, 90-79 at the Kerr Fitness Center. Junior forward Tyler Frederick led all scorers with 30 points and tied his career-high with 19 rebounds. LRU trailed 42-44 at halftime, but managed to outscore the Spartans 48-35 in the second half to improve to 6-0 against the AMCC. Saturday's victory is the first time this season the men came out victorious after trailing at the half. It's also the first time in 2019-20 La Roche came away with a win shooting under 50% from the field. The Redhawks dominated on the glass, collecting a season-high 64 rebounds to D'Youville's 34. Desmond Ross and Austin Hannes shot a combined 7 of 12 (58%) from beyond 3-PT range in the contest. Kennedy Smith finished with 16 points and a game-high 6 assists.

  • Tyler Frederick was awarded the AMCC Athlete of the Week for the second straight week and fourth time in his career, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon. The AMCC Preseason Player of the Year currently leads the conference in points per game (21.4) and rebounds per game (12.3). His rebounds per game mark is eighth best among all D-III men's basketball players and his six double-doubles this season ranks T-24th in D-III.
  • The Redhawks extended their AMCC regular season win streak to 26 games after defeating D'Youville last Saturday. The black and red's last regular season conference loss was on February 10th, 2017.
  • LRU remains the only undefeated team in league play with a 6-0 conference record, placing them at the top of the AMCC standings. Three other teams in the conference are right on the Redhawks tail, posting only one conference loss a piece (Pitt Greensburg, Penn St. Behrend & Hilbert).
  • Against the AMCC, La Roche has averaged a conference best 92.5 points per game, 9.5 points higher than the next team (Hilbert: 83.0 PPG), while shooting 52% from the field in those six contests.
  • Kennedy Smith ranks second in the conference behind Frederick averaging 19.9 points per game this season.
  • Junior guard Austin Hannes has knocked down 30 triples so far this season, tied for the most in the AMCC.

  • Alfred St. has lost four of their last five contests, three of those loses were by less than 10 points.
  • Their most recent win was on January 2nd against Rochester Institute of Technology. The Pioneers hit a layup with 7 seconds remaining on the clock to come out victorious, 60-58.
  • 5'11 Sophomore guard Ryan Gentile leads the team in scoring with 16.2 points per game. The Sophomore standout shoots well from beyond the arc, averaging 2.6 triples per game (4th best in AMCC) and 44% from three-point range.
  • 6'5 Freshman forward Markel Jenkins leads the team in rebounding with 8.6 rebounds per game.

Series History

  • The 2019-20 season is Alfred State's first as members of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. The Pioneers were previously members of the American Collegiate Athletic Association prior to joining the AMCC.
