La Roche Keeps Pace in AMCC, Sets Up Wednesday Matchup Between Conference's Top Ranked Teams

BUFFALO, NY -- The snow slowed the Redhawks' bus ride but it did not slow them on the court as they cruised to a 93-55 on Saturday at D'Youville.

The victory sets up a Wednesday night matchup between the AMCC's top two teams. Penn State Behrend held on for a 67-66 win over Penn State Altoona earlier today.

La Roche was extremely efficient scoring from both short and long range. The Redhawks never trailed but D'Youville was able to bury the three to keep it close early.

Things changed at about the seven minute mark of the first half. D'Youville went ice cold and the Redhawks closed the half on a 20-3 run. La Roche stretched a two-point lead to a 54-35 lead at intermission.

The Redhawks took advantage of hot shooting and a more than 2 to 1 edge on the boards. They were excellent from close range, missing just five shots from inside the perimeter.

RayQuan Phifer and Trell Thomas nearly scored as many first half points as D'Youville. Phifer finished the first with 17 points (6 of 7 FG) and Thomas with 14 points. Zach Gould had 11 points and 4 assists.

The Redhawks kept their foot on the throttle and ran away in the second half. They opened the second on a 30-7 run and doubled D'Youville 84-42 with 8:39 left.

La Roche slowed pace and ran clock over the game's closing minutes. They held D'Youville to just 21% shooting in the second half.

The Redhawks tied a season-high with 54 rebounds. They shot 53% (41 of 78) and limited the Spartans to under 30% (19 of 65).

Phifer finished with 21 points and 6 rebounds and Thomas 16 points and 6 rebounds. Zach Gould had 11 points, 6 rebounds and 5 rebounds and Ryan Norkus 14 points and 8 rebounds.
