John Carroll Outpaces La Roche

CLEVELAND, OH -- The Redhawks hit the road on Tuesday evening to play one of the nation's top teams. John Carroll came into the game just one spot out of the top 25 and ranked sixth in the nation in scoring offense. La Roche outrebounded John Carroll and evened the Blue Streak in shot percentage, but utimately fell 108-86. 

Trell Thomas led the Redhawks with 14 points and Zach Gould dished out 5 assits. RayQuan Phifer and Arnes Bajgora each had 13 points and Ryan Norkus reached double figures with 12 points. Dion Etheridge pulled down 11 boards and Darius Lawrence picked up 3 steals.

La Roche and John Carroll each shot 45% but the Blue Streak attempted twenty more shots and hit sixteen three pointers. The Redhawks held a small edge on the boards.

The Redhawks held the John Carroll's offense in check over the early portion of the first half. The Blue Streak built a fourteen point lead into the sixth minute but La Roche narrowed the gap with twelve minutes left in the half. Free throws and an Evan Brown three-pointer helped the Redhawks close gap.

La Roche continued to score at a decent rate over the final portion of the first half. John Carroll however traded three-pointers to the Redhawks twos and built a 63-42 halftime lead.

The Redhawks had barely left the locker room when a Bajgora layup and Thomas three-pointer sparked a 5-0 run. Zach Gould drained a three-pointer to get the Redhawks within 15, but La Roche was unable to cut the deficit to single digits and John Carroll hung on.

The Redhawks fall to 5-5 and John Carroll improves to 8-1.

La Roche will conclude their 2017 schedule with a Thursday night game at Allegheny. The Gators are 5-5 and have won two straight.
