Redhawks Drop Non-Conference Tilt Against Raiders

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche baseball returned to action, this time hosting Mount Union on Wednesday afternoon, but were unable to get past the Raiders, falling, 15-7.

Mount Union was the first to score, plating four runs in the top of the first inning behind a La Roche error and a three-run homer.

The Redhawks jumped right back in the bottom of the first, bringing home five runs to take the lead, 5-4.

In the inning, La Roche brought 10 batters to the plate, including runs driven in by Caden Maffitt and Alex Perez, both with RBI singles, a bases loaded walk drawn by Damon Foster and a Raider error that scored a pair of runs.

The Redhawks added to the lead in both the second and third innings, when Tyler Smith delivered a solo homer in the second, then produced an RBI groundout in the third to make it 7-4. Unfortunately, the La Roche bats would go quiet from there, producing just one hit the remainder of the contest.

Mount Union cut the deficit to 7-5 with s solo home run in the top of the fifth, then took complete control with a six-run, top of the seventh to build an 11-7 lead.

The Raiders would close scoring in the top of the eighth, plating four more runs to put the game well out of reach.

Bryson Bubb got the start, but lasted just 0.2 innings, allowing four runs, one hit and walked three.

Jimmy Roe would suffer the loss, allowing three runs and three hits in 1.1 innings of relief.

Seven other relievers threw for La Roche, combining to throw seven innings, allowing eight runs, eight hits, nine walks and struck out two.

Offensively, the Redhawks collected 10 hits, with Smith, Tanner Schmitt and Alex Perez leading the way with two hits each.

La Roche returns to action on the road, Saturday, Apr. 26 in a pivotal AMCC doubleheader against Alfred State. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
