NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - La Roche baseball traveled to Westminster on Monday for a non-conference tilt, but in the end, the host Titans came out on top, 9-8 in 10 innings.
The Redhawks struck first in the top of the second, plating three runs behind an RBI groundout by Brandon Snyder, RBI double by Dom Brncic and an RBI single from Damon Foster.
La Roche upped the lead to 4-0 in the top of the third, when Andy Sopata singled in Josh Dreyer.
Westminster would respond, cutting the deficit to 4-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, before taking the lead in the bottom of the fourth with three more runs.
The Titans added to its lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring a single run to put the Redhawks behind, 6-4.
La Roche got the bats going again in the top of the sixth, regaining the lead with three runs crossing the plate.
Larry Bielawski drove in Snyder to make it 6-5 with an RBI single, then Dreyer drove in a pair on an RBI single of his own to make it 7-6.
The Redhawks tacked on their final run of the game in the top of the seventh, when Snyder drove in Christian Melendez.
Unfortunately, the Titans had answers in the bottom half of the final three innings, hitting RBI singles in the bottom of the eighth and ninth to tie the game and force extras, then a third RBI in the 10th to take the victory.
Jamison Rhodes got the start, tossing four innings, allowing five runs (three earned), five hits, two walks and struck out five.
Zach Jackson allowed a run, hit and walk in one inning of relief, followed by Jimmy Roe's 3.1 innings, allowing two runs, six hits and struck out three.
Jared Hough took the loss throwing 1.1 innings, allowing a run and three hits.
Offensively, Tanner Schmitt's 3-fo-6 day led the charge, while five others added two hits.
La Roche is right back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 4 for the home opener against Geneva. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
