Redhawks Fall To Tomcats 5-3 In Non-Conference Action

GREENVILLE, Pa. – La Roche baseball took to the road for a single non-conference matchup against Thiel, but were unable to get past the Tomcats, falling 5-3.

Thiel did most of its damage in the bottom of the second inning, plating four runs to jump ahead 4-0.

The final Tomcat run scored in the bottom of the fourth inning, extending the edge to 5-0.

La Roche scored its first run in the top of the fifth inning, when Cameron Mauk belted a solo homer to make it 5-1.

The Redhawks would add another run in the top of the eighth to trim the deficit to 5-2 on a Brandon Snyder RBI single.

La Roche's final run crossed in the top of the ninth when Christian Melendez singled in Damon Foster to make it 5-3, but after that, the Redhawks would not be able to cross any of the other runners as the bases would be left filled.

Caden Maffitt got the start for La Roche and in two innings allowed four runs (three earned), six hits, one walk and struck out two.

Jared Hough pitched the remainder of the game and in his six innings allowed just one run, seven hits and fanned four.

Offensively, La Roche had fnine hits, with Melendez and Foster each having a 2-for-4 showing.

The Redhawks are back in action on Saturday, Mar. 30 in AMCC play when they travel to Pitt-Bradford for a doubleheader. Opening pitch for game one is slated for 1 p.m.
