Redhawks Fall after a Hard Battle with Bearcats

PITTSBURGH, PA - This afternoon Redhawk Baseball took the field against the Saint Vincent College Bearcats in intermission to conference play. La Roche battled hard but after a big inning from the Bearcats, the Redhawks succumbed to a loss.

Saint Vincent was the first two runs on the board, but La Roche did not let them go unanswered. Christian Melendez doubled to left field to push one run in, and Tanner Kobal shot a solo home run in the bottom of the third to put the team within two.

However, a hot fourth inning for the Bearcats, driving in four runs would seal the Redhawks' fate. La Roche went through 3 pitchers in the fourth inning in an attempt to corral the Saint Vincent firepower but struggled until Chauncie Mickens came to the mound to get the final out of the inning.

Mickens held the Bearcats scoreless for the next two innings, recording one strikeout, until Connor Greer came in to take over. He did not last long, and Dylan Chan came in to finish out the game for the Redhawks. Chan pitched the final two and one-third innings, earning 2 strikeouts and giving up one hit.

La Roche made an effort to recover in the bottom of the fourth inning, with ducks on the bases, an error from the Bearcats' center fielder allowed two runs to score.

Taking the loss on the mound for the Redhawks' is Samuel DiCicco. The hurler allowed four runs on six hits and walked two.

Leading La Roche offensively was Zach Keib who went 2-for-2 at the plate and walked twice.

Mason Brooks and Christan Melendez each recorded 2 hits for the team. Tanner Kobal, Kyle Weitzel, and Melendez each recorded an RBI.

La Roche will resume conference play on Saturday against the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats; the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM.
