La Roche Baseball Falls at Home

La Roche Baseball Falls at Home

PITTSBURGH, PA - This afternoon La Roche Baseball faced the Grove City College Wolverines in a doubleheader spat.

GAME ONE

The Wolverines took an early lead in the first inning, scoring 3 runs to give themselves some cushion room. The Redhawks however, were not ready to back down.

La Roche found a rally in the sixth inning, scoring four runs. Josh Dryer and Damon Foster battled hard at the plate, both earning walks to get runners on base. From here, Zach Kieb singled to right field, loading the bases for Nathan Stutz

Kyle Weitzel saw Kieb's single and raised him one of his own, this one finding its way to the gap in center field. Dryer took the advantage to score the Redhawks' first run of the game.

Stutz hang tough and earned a walk of his own, and with nowhere else to put him on the bases, Foster walked across home plate, earning Stutz an RBI.

To wrap up the rally Mason Brooks shot a rocket to the wall of center field, giving Kieb and Weitzel the opportunity to cross home plate and put the team within two.

La Roche's bats seemed to go cold after the rally, and even though they fought hard at the plate, and in the field, they could not cover the ground the Wolverines' gained in the first inning.

Brooks led the pack with 2 RBIs.

GAME TWO

After a short break for both teams, they hit the field for round two. La Roche however, struggled to contain the Wolverines' offense.

The Redhawks went through 4 pitchers before Chauncie Mickens was able to find the secret formula to shutting Grove City down. Mickens hurled on the mound for 4 innings, allowing 1 hit, no runs, and earning himself 5 strikeouts.  Mickens did not give up any walks.

Shane Murphy and Nathan Stutz both recorded doubles for the La Roche offense. Each also earned an RBI for their efforts.

Although the Redhawks' found the formula to slow down the Wolverines, it was too late, but La Roche fought until the final out.

In a last-minute schedule change, the Redhawks will be back at home tomorrow at 4:30 against Geneva to squeeze in a quick 9-inning game before the rain comes to ruin the field.
