Preview: Baseball Travels to Alfred State

The La Roche University baseball team travels to Alfred, NY on Wednesday, April 28th for a conference doubleheader with Alfred State. The games were originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, April 24th but were pushed back due to inclement weather.

La Roche News and Notes

  • The Redhawks currently own a 12-0 overall and conference record. LRU sits at first place in the AMCC standings 2.5 games ahead of the next best team.
  • La Roche has outscored their opponents 122-22.
  • Most recently on April 26th, the Redhawks swept Mt. Aloysius in the AMCC Games of the Week 5-2 and 19-3. LRU's 19 runs scored in game two are their most this season. The Redhawks also hit a season-high 12 extra-base hits (eight doubles, two triples, two homeruns).
  • As a unit, La Roche is batting .386, which is not only the best mark in the conference, it's the best batting average among all NCAA Division III teams.
  • In AMCC action, senior Austin Hoffman has 22 RBI (1st in AMCC), a .460 batting average (3rd in AMCC, 1st on team), 23 hits (1st in AMCC), five home-runs (2nd in AMCC, 1st on team), seven doubles (t-2nd in AMCC, t-1st on team) and 18 scored runs (t-1st in AMCC). Hoffman is also currently on an eight game hitting streak. During that span, he has recorded 15 hits.
  • Senior Jay Novak ranks second in hits (22), second in doubles (7), third in RBI (18) and fifth in batting average (.440) in conference play. Hudson has seven games this season with multiple hits and four games with three or more. He also has notched seven RBI in the last three games.
  • Senior Dylan Urban ranks third on the team with 12 RBI, second on the team with two home-runs, and is tied for second in the conference with seven doubles. In game two against Mt. Aloysius (4/26), Urban had a career-high five hits and three doubles. Urban's five hits and three doubles are the most by any player in the conference in a game this season.
  • Senior Jake Seymour is 4-0 on the season and leads the AMCC with a 0.66 ERA which also ranks in the top-10 among D-III pitchers. in 27.0 innings pitched, Seymour has 28 strikeouts, four walks anf has given up just two earned runs.
  • Dual threat Tristan Tinney is 3-0 on the mound this season. In 18.2 innings pitched, he has 21 strikeouts to six walks and a 2,41 ERA which ranks 10th in the AMCC. At the plate, Tinney is batting .400 with 10 hits, two doubles, a homerun, nine RBI and a team-high four stolen bases.
  • Senior Mike Nuzzo ranks third in the conference with a 1.50 ERA. Nuzzo is 2-0 on the season and has one save. In 12.0 innings pitched, he has 13 strikeouts to four walks and has only two earned runs.
  • Junior Zack Oddi is 2-0 on the season, both complete games. In 14.0 innings pitched, Oddi has seven strikeouts, two walks and 1.93 ERA (6th in AMCC).

Alfred State News and Notes

  • The Pioneers are currently 12-18 overall and 6-4 in conference play. ASC sits at the number four spot in the AMCC standings. At 30 games total, Alfred State has played in more games than any other team in the conference.
  • Most recently, Alfred State dropped two games to Penn St. Behrend 1-0 and 5-1 on April 24th.
  • Junior Matteo Avallone leads the Pioneers in batting average (.417), RBI (12), hits (15) and extra base hits (7 doubles, 1 homerun) in 10 conference games this season.
  • Seniors Jack Henby (.333) and Brody Burdett (.333) are the only other Alfred State players batting above .300 in AMCC play.
  • Senior AJ Gartland has thrown the most innings for ASC and is 1-2 on the season. In 20.0 innings pitched, Gartland has 19 strikeouts and nine walks. He has allowed 14 earned runs and 19 hits.
  • Freshman Chris Mattoon has pitched 16.1 innings, throwing 14 strikeouts, two walks and giving up just three earned runs. Mattoon has a 1.65 ERA which ranks fourth in the conference.
