Baseball Dominates Bobcats in Doubleheader Sweep

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The La Roche University baseball team (10-0, 10-0) kept their perfect record in-tact with a conference sweep over Pitt Greensburg (2-16, 1-7) at home. LRU shutout the Bobcats in game one 7-0 and won game two 11-3. The Redhawks have outscored their opponents this season 98-17.

Game One - La Roche 7, Pitt Greensburg 0

Pitching

Senior pitcher Jake Seymour got his second shutout of the season in game one. Seymour pitched his second straight complete game and improved to 3-0 on the season. In 7.0 innings pitched, Seymour struckout five, walked one and gave up no earned runs. In fact, Seymour is one of only two pitchers in NCAA D-III who has pitched at least 15.0 innings without giving up an earned run.

How it Happened

Mason Brooks got things started in the bottom of the second for LRU with an RBI double to left center field two score two runs. Two batters later, Austin Hoffman reached on an error to score Brooks.

In the top bottom of the fourth, Nathan Stutz hit an RBI single to left field to score Tristan Tinney. Hoffman scored Stutz the next at bat with a RBI double to right field to put the Redhawks up 5-0.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, Brooks got his third RBI of the day on an infield single that scored Jason Swope. Beny Dottle grounded out a play later but knocked in the Redhawks final run.

Inside the Box Score

Mason Brooks had a career-high three RBI in game one. He batted 2-3 with a double and scored a run.

Austin Hoffman went 2-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Hoffman has had two or more hits in seven games this season.

Philip Pieto went 2-3 with a double and scored two runs.

Jason Swope went 2-4 and scored a run.

Game Two - La Roche 11, Pitt Greensburg 3

Pitching

Mike Nuzzo got his second win of the season in game two. In 5.0 innings, Nuzzo struckout six batters, had no walks and gave up just one earned run. Nuzzo ranks second in the AMCC, behind teammate Jake Seymour, with a 1.50 ERA in 12.0 innings pitched. Michael Rapneth, Dante DeLillo, Shane Murphy and Mason Brooks all pitched an inning.

How it Happened

Pitt Greensburg got their first run of the day when their leadoff batter hit a homerun in the top of the first. Greensburg wouldn't score again until the top of the ninth.

Jay Novak responded quickly for the Redhawks with a bases clearing three run double to center field in the bottom of the first. A couple batters later, Tristan Tinnet hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Novak.

In the bottom of the second, Austin Hoffman cranked a two-run homer into left center. Two batters later, Jason Swope hit a solo-homerun down the right field line.

In the bottom of the fourth, Hoffman hit a two-run single into left to score Nathan Stutz and Ben Dottle. Two innings later, Austin Hoffman hit another homerun over the left field fence, this time a solo shot.

In the bottom of the seventh, in his first at bat as a Redhawk, Anthony Cioffi knocked an RBI single into left field to score LRU's final run of the day.

Inside the Box Score

Austin Hoffman had his second two-homerun day of the season in game two vs. UPG. Hoffman went 3-4, scored three runs and notched a career-high five RBI.

Jay Novak went 2-4 with three RBI and a double.

Nathan Stutz scored two runs and 1-3 with a double.

Jason Swope went 1-3 with a homer and scored two runs.

Seven differnet Redhawks scored at least one run in game two.
