Redhawks Hit 5 Homeruns in Sweep Over Altoona

McCANDLESS, Pa. - The La Roche University baseball team improved to 6-0 Wednesday afternoon after sweeping Penn St. Altoona in their home opener at the Baierl Athletic Complex. The Redhawks outscored the Lions by a combined total of 21-2 and batted .400 (24-60) as a unit. The offense had 11 extra-base hits (five doubles, a triple, five homeruns).

Game One - La Roche 7, Penn St. Altoona 1

In game one, LRU got stellar pitching from senior Jake Seymour. Seymour pitched all 7.0 innings, notching the first complete game of his collegiate career. He had five strikeouts, two walks, and no earned runs. Seymour is now 2-0 this season.

Ryan Lynn, Jay Novak and Tristan Tinney all went yard in game one, driving in six of La Roche's seven runs. Three of the Redhawks eight hits in the game were homeruns.

Tristan Tinney knocked the first homerun over the right field fence in the bottom of the second. He finished 1-2 with one RBI and a walk.

Jason Swope hit a 2-RBI single in the bottom of the third, scoring Hoffman and Ben Dottle.

Ryan Lynn knocked a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth into center left field, sending home Hoffman and Nathan Stutz.

Two batters later in the bottom of the fifth, Jay Novak cranked a bomb (one-run HR) over the high left field fence for the Redhawks third homerun of the game.

Austin Hoffman went 2-3, scored two runs and got a stolen base.

Seven different Redhawks recorded at least one hit.

Game Two - La Roche 14, Penn St. Altoona 1

Dylan Urban got things going in the bottom of the second with an RBI double. He also had a an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 8th.

Jay Novak had an RBI single in the top of the third and an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh.

Austin Hoffman knocked two homers and recorded four RBI. It's the first two-homerun game of Hoffman's collegiate career. The second homerun hit the LRU scoreboard.

Mason Brooks had an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh.

Nathan Stutz had a 2-RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.

Inside the Box Score

Tristan Tinney got the start on the mound in game two. Tinney went 6.0 innings, recorded six strikeouts, a wallk and one earned run.

Jackson Rodgers came in for relief in the seventh. Rodgers went 1.1 innings with a strikeout. Tyler Vargon went 0.2 innings. Mike Nuzzo came in to close the final inning and struckout two batters. None of the relief pitchers let up a run or a hit.

Jay Novak was a perfect 4-4 with a triple, a double, 3 RBI and two scored runs.

Mason Brooks went 2-4 with an RBI double and scored a run.

Jason Swope went 2-4 and scored a game-high three runs.

Brandon Walker hit a double and scored.
