Baseball Sweeps Medaille on the Road

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The La Roche baseball team collected their second sweep of the season Saturday afternoon at Medaille to improve to 4-0. The Redhawks blasted 32 hits and 11 extra base hits. So far this season, LRU has outscored their opponents 51-7. As a unit, LRU is batting a staggering .412 (63-153) while their opponents are batting .237.

Game 1 - La Roche 12, Medaille 2

Junior Zack Oddi got his third career win and pitched his first collegiate complete game Saturday afternoon. In 7.0 innings, Oddi had six strikeouts, no walks and two earned runs while only throwing 81 pitches.

The Redhawks took the lead in the top of the first and never looked back. The white and red scored eight of their 12 runs in the top of the 7th.

Senior Jay Novak went a perfect 4-4 at the plate, recording a double and a game-high three RBI. Senior Austin Hoffman went 4-5, had two doubles and two RBI. Senior Dylan Urban recorded his second homerun of the season on a 2-run blast. Junior Ryan Lynn went 2-5 with a double and scored two runs. Freshman Ben Dottle went 2-3 with an RBI double and crossed home plate twice.

Game 2 - La Roche 10, Medaille 3

Senior Mike Nuzzo got his first career win with the Redhawks Saturday afternoon. Nuzzo pitched 5.0 innings, striking out four batters and giving up just one run and three hits. Junior Shawn Marcellus came in as a reliever and went 3.0 IP, striking out five batters and giving up two earned runs. Sophomore Shane Murphy closed out the final inning and struck-out two batters.

Sophomore catcher Nathan Stutz went 3-4 with a double and two RBI. Dylan Urban went 3-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Ryan Lynn got his first homerun as a Redhawk and went 2-5 with two RBI.
