Baseball 2021 Season Preview

McCANDLESS, Pa. - The La Roche baseball program will kick off their 2021 spring season this Thursday, April 8th at Hilbert College in Buffalo, NY. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 PM. Hilbert College currently does not allow spectators at indoor or outdoor events.

Head Coach Chase Rowe is in his 14th season at the helm of the program. Rowe and the Redhawks have boasted an astounding six straight AMCC Regular Season and Tournament Championships. In all six of those seasons, LRU has won 30 or more games. Rowe owns a career record of 370-195 (.655) as HC, the 36th best winning percentage among all active coaches in NCAA D-III.

The Redhawks 2021 roster features 10 seniors, seven juniors, seven sophomores and 11 freshmen. Three members of this years senior class have previously been named to an AMCC All-Conference Team (Jake Seymour, Austin Hoffman & Jay Novak). Seymour was named to the 2019 All-Conference first team and was named a 2021 AMCC Player to Watch. The Allison Park native has appeared in 44 games and owns a 6-4 record. In 85.2 innings, he has thrown 84 strikeouts to just 27 walks and has a 3.26 career ERA.

Hoffman was named to the 2019 All-Conference third team and was named a 2021 AMCC Player to Watch. In 97 career games, the Moon, PA native has recorded 116 hits, 27 doubles, seven triples, three homeruns and 61 RBI while batting .325.

Novak was the 2018 AMCC Newcomer of the Year and twice named the All-Conference third team (2018, 19). In 96 career games, the Uniotown native has recorded 112 hits, 17 doubles, four triples, five homeruns and 81 RBI while batting .325.

Senior Tristan Tinney (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) will be a dual threat for the Redhawks. Tinney is 4-3 on the mound and has appeared in nine games. In 51.1 innings he has a 3.33 career ERA. At the plate, he has 30 hits in 104 at-bats for a .288 batting average. Senior Dylan Urban (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) won the D-III Hero National Newcomer of the Year award in 2018. In 91 games, Urban has 97 hits, 13 doubles, six triples, four homeruns and 54 RBI while batting .291.

Senior infielder Phillip Pieto looks to provide power to the Redhawks lineup. In his last 23 games, Pieto has four homeruns, eight doubles and 17 RBI. He boasts a career batting average of .333.

Junior right handed pitcher Zach Oddi (Carnegie, PA/Carlynton) has appeared in 13 games and has a 2-2 record with one save. In 25.0 innings pitched, he has 18 strikeouts to eight walks.

During their six year dominance of the AMCC, LRU is an incredible 91-9 (.910) in conference regular season play and 19-2 (.905) in conference postseason play.
