La Roche Tops Behrend, Advances to Eighth Straight AMCC Championship Game

The La Roche University Redhawks advanced to their eighth straight AMCC Championship Game after cruising to a 13-3 victory over Penn State Behrend on Friday. La Roche will look to win their sixth straight title and their seventh in the past eight years in the championship game tomorrow. La Roche will face Penn State Altoona who defeated Penn State Behrend in the late game on Friday.

Tre Thomas, Jonathan Spina, Phil Pieto Postgame Interview

Tre Thomas sent Behrend down in order in the top of the first. The Redhawks then took advantage of a Behrend error, with Shane Roebuck using a sacrifice fly to drive home Jay Novak.

Behrend pushed a ball over the right field wall to tie it in the second. La Roche took control with an 11 spot in the bottom of the second. 

Phil Pieto led off with a double and Tristen Tinney drove the ball into the right centerfield gap to score Pieto. Dylan Urban and Troy Kifer reached and Jay Novak just missed a grand slam with a double to the wall. Austin Hoffman singled up the middle for a 5-1 lead.

Pieto and Tinney followed with RBI hits and Kifer cleared the bases with a three run double into the left field gap. Hoffman then provided his second RBI hit of the inning for an 11-1 lead.

Behrend struck for a pair in the third, but Thomas tossed a scoreless fourth and Kifer turned a double play to end the fifth.

Thomas shut down Behrend over the final five innings and Spina added a run in the eighth. 

Spina had four hits while Hoffman and Kifer each drove in three runs. Spina, Tinney, Pieto, Novak, and Kifer all scored twice.

Thomas allowed just one earned run on seven hits to earn the complete game win.
